Solstice
Founded in 2022 at the University of Southern Mississippi, the Solstice Reed Quintet is an award-winning ensemble dedicated to championing the rich and expanding repertoire for reed quintet. Committed to both established masterworks and emerging voices, the ensemble seeks to showcase the versatility, expressive range, and unique sonic possibilities of this distinctive chamber music medium.
The quintet has earned national recognition through performances and competitions, including First Prize at the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Chamber Music Competition and finalist honors in the North American Saxophone Alliance’s Flex Competition. Solstice has also been invited to perform at the North American Saxophone Alliance Conference and the International Navy Band Saxophone Symposium.
Beyond the concert stage, Solstice is passionate about connecting with communities through educational outreach, masterclasses, and collaborations with composers. The ensemble actively commissions and performs new works, helping to expand the reed quintet repertoire while engaging audiences through innovative and accessible programming.
Members Becca Chadwick, Freddy Mora Quiros, Matthew James, Cailin McGarry, and Hannah Faircloth bring diverse artistic backgrounds and a shared commitment to musical excellence, creativity, and meaningful audience engagement.
